Reply Delete I think the authors have some potential, just in need of some more polish and plot/character development. I was considering reading the first book to get some context to the events that happen in the second book (and maybe it'd be a better read than the second), but from the sounds of things it just might not be worth it. As someone that didn't read the first book (I'm kinda used to historical romance series being able to be read in any order) it is really disjointing, and sort of gives away a major plot spoiler around the end (without explaining anything of course). Even worse, the second book really can't be read comfortably without the first, as they take place at the same time and events from the first book show up randomly. Has potential, but a few unexplained story details (like Graham and Archer disliking each other for being rakes). It also sounds like all the issues you had with this book are the same issues I've been having with the second. Man I wish I had found this review before I picked up the second book from NetGalley. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once, the people of Northrek blamed me when the Veil fell. It tells the story of the "lost little house" years. One story not written by Wilder is Old Town in the Green Groves by Cynthia Rylant. They provide fictionalized accounts of the lives of Wilder's great-grandmother Martha Morse Tucker, grandmother Charlotte Tucker Quiner, mother Caroline Ingalls, and daughter Rose Wilder Lane's childhood and teenage years, as well as Wilder's own missing years-those portions of her life not featured in her novels, including most of her adult life. Several book series and some single novels by other writers have been published for children, young adults and adult readers.
